Dear Customer,
It's time to start another charity project..! It has taken me a while (almost nine months), but by now my quilt is so far ready that I can start talking to you about it and invite you to join in making as many more.
As loyal readers of this newsletter read last month, I'm making an "I spy" quilt for a children's hospital. The technique is English paper piecing, which is really easy and a lot of fun. Instead of the traditional grandmother's flower garden, I use a little object as the center with six matching fabrics around in the main color. It's all hand work that you can do everywhere, the paper is telling you exactly where to go. No measuring, precise seam allowances..it's mindless sewing!
Once a flower is made I put it aside until I had enough to make a rainbow..the result is almost ready. I need four more rows of green, grey and black, put a border around it and a 3 x 9 feet long wall hanging is ready. It's totally made out of scraps, has over 1,200 pieces and the next ones we are going to make together!
This is what you can do:
* Look in your stash and see if you have any objects that are fun and recognizable for little children. Objects should be no bigger than 1.5".
* Bring these fabrics in and donate to the cause. I will find matching fabrics. Thank you!! Especially older fabrics are great for this. I have plenty of bugs, cats etc.. it's really the more unusual objects that I'm after.
* Come to the shop and pick up a free kit to make one flower. You will get a center object, 6 matching fabrics + all the paper pieces. All you need is some thread! I promise you that this is extremely addicting... we now carry a full collection of English papers in the shop!
* At one point, I will need some people that are willing to help me putting the flowers together and make a quilt out of it. We can do this in the shop during the day, an evening...whatever. I have no idea how many flowers we will get back, but if the past is any lesson.... this project could well generate several quilts. The flowers need to be sewn together with some extra blocks in between that make the colors flow...and of course the quilts will have to be tied. Those people who help can vote for their favorite place to where the to be donated quilts will go.
This month we are having a wonderful trunk show in the shop. Please take a look at the bags made by Pink Sand Beach Designs! They are a lot of fun and we have bags for every style and taste. Some bags are made out of Jo Morton's reproduction fabrics, some are in fancy contemporary fabrics! For some you can use the Canvas of Moda's Pure collection that has come in! With the Holidays approaching, this may be a good inspiration for some gifts?
Once you have made the pattern one time, the next ones will be done quickly and effortless.
The green gift certificate is for Brenda Quinn. Thank you for visiting our shop Brenda and taking your goodies with you without a bag!
Don't forget 20-20!!... 20% discount if you finish the bolt (not valid for sticker fabrics)..there are still customers that haven't heard about this wonderful Webfabrics' tradition. Every month new bolts are the thin ones..it's the best way to get the latest of the latest for a deal!
Hope to see you soon with some fun scraps for our "Look Andrea, look Brenda, look Charlie" quilt. Pick up a free kit, donate some time and feel good about getting involved!
A website for all, a quilt shop for
you.
Warmest regards,
