Fur Real - An Animal Portrait Workshop - Hilton Garden Inn, Martinsburg, WV

Learn how to convert a photograph of a favorite animal into a gorgeous raw-edge applique wall hanging. Bring an enlarged photo, a variety of fabrics, and be prepared to dive in.

In this two-day workshop, you’ll create your pattern, learn how to make realistic eyes and noses, and be well on your way to creating a memorable piece. This team approach to teaching by two award-winning quilt artists will give you plenty of hands-on and personalized instruction.

Tina Freudenberger and Carol Monti have both found ways to use their passions for quilting, animals and landscapes to create award winning art quilts. They have joined with Barbara Yates Beasley to continue teacher her techniques:

"I’m happy to have Tina and Carol join the Team BYB Artist network of instructors. After multiple classes with me, they are taking the methodology I teach and adding their own award-winning approach. I am confident that you will have an excellent time and learn techniques you can use far beyond just animal portraits. – Barbara Yates Beasley"

Instructor: Tina Freudenberger and Carol Monti
Instructor Bio: Tina Freudenberger has been working with textiles for much of her life. From screenprinting and embroidery, to working with Quilts Beyond Borders, Tina’s love of fiber arts runs deep. When she learned to combine fabric with her love of animals though, her creativity took off. Tina’s passion is to create art that highlights animals that are imperiled and that can then be sold to support animal causes. Her animal portraits continue to win awards in national quilt competitions. Carol Monti started traditional quilting over 10 years ago and eventually found her way to creating animal portraits using raw-edge applique. Her love for nature and animals clearly shows not only in the animal portraits she creates, but in her landscapes and the birds and bugs that find their way into her fiber art pieces. Carol’s landscape art quilts have won several awards in regional and national quilt shows.
