WebFabrics Fall Retreat

The WebFabrics Spring Retreat was so fun we decided to host a Fall Retreat from October 11-14, 2024.  This retreat will be packed with fun, sewing, laughing and learning.

WebFabrics Retreats aims to provide a happy sewing place where you can sew all you want, learn a few new skills, and enjoy the company of friends.  Whether you are finishing up UFOs, starting a new project, attending a demo, shopping, or just mingling around the room socializing….

How you spend time at our Fall Quilt Retreat is completely up to you.

The agenda is being planned now and will unfold as more details are ironed out.  The agenda is intended to give you a plan for the event to allow you to participate as much as you want in any structured event.  Our goal is to have a few “extra fun” things thrown in because we just can’t help ourselves.

The total cost of the retreat is $350.00 per person (this does not include lodging).

We will have a number of day slots available.  If you are interested in attending for just one day please sign us here. There will not be any day slots for Monday, October 14th.

Special Guests:

Jenn
Jennifer Worthen - Slightly Biased Quilts

With a lifelong love of bright colors and a PhD in Computational Science, Engineering, and Mathematics, I bring a unique blend of creativity and precision to my quilt designs.

Slightly Biased Quilts started as a bias tape Etsy shop, but my passion for quilting soon took center stage. I’ve been quilting since 2009, and I find immense joy in transforming beautiful fabrics into stunning quilts, even with simple patterns. My focus is on creating beginner-friendly, scrap-busting quilt patterns that are quick and easy to assemble. I love helping new quilters experience the satisfaction of completing a beautiful project.

While I appreciate classic quilt blocks, I enjoy putting a modern spin on them with my fabric choices and color palettes. This playful approach lets you create quilts that feel fresh and unique. In addition to designing downloadable PDF patterns, I’m also a published quilt designer, a quilt instructor, and a lecturer. I’m a member of the DC Modern Quilt Guild and absolutely love connecting with fellow quilters at shows and events.

Jenn will be joining us for the entire retreat.  She will present a trunk show and talk about her journey as well as teaching a Binding Class.

The Quilt Binding class walks students through the steps of making and attaching quilt binding to a quilt. Students will bring pre-cut strips of fabric and enjoy the use of a binding machine that will do all the ironing for them! Then students will attach the binding to their quilt, by machine for the front side and then finishing the back side by hand. This class is excellent for anyone who needs a little help in making their binding more precise and clean!

Materials Needed:
  • Quilt of any size (quilted and trimmed but not bound)
  • Strips of binding fabric cut at 2 ½ inches wide, at the appropriate length for the quilt
  • Thread matching the binding fabric or backing fabric
  • Clover clips (included in kit at quilt shows)
  • Small scissors (included in kit at quilt shows)
  • Hand-sewing needle (included in kit at quilt shows)
  • Sewing gauge or other small ruler (included in kit at quilt shows)
  • Sewing machine and supplies/accessories (don’t forget the power cord!) with a walking foot

SusanClaire Mayfield, The Gourmet Quilter

SusanClaire Mayfield has been quilting since the seventies and has been sewing as a child, as encouraged by her mum before then.

When asked to teach at a local quilting store, Susan-Claire decided to prepare her own patterns for the class. The designs and patterns were popular, and quilters asked for more, so the pattern designing began. Susan-Claire has many designs now and her own studio in her home country, New Zealand, and loves it!

We met SusanClaire at the H+H Conference in 2023 and connected with her. You may remember her Block of the Month, Welcome to My World, from last year. We borrowed her quilt and had it on display in the store for a few months.

Susan is known on her YouTube Channel and website as The Gourmet Quilter. In recent years, SusanClaire mentioned to a Quilter that she had been asked to be the guest speaker at a Quilter's Guild and was wondering what topic to speak on. The Quilter’s husband overheard the question and replied, “Cooking, of course”. Well, when you get to know SusanClaire, you won’t be surprised to hear that she took up the challenge and prepared a Quilter's version of a 3-course fabric meal with appropriate commentary and good humor – and so the GourmetQuilter .......because quilting is delicious! was born.

SusanClaire will join us for the entire retreat as both a guest speaker/teacher and a fellow retreater.
